One of the major problems we have when the economy is sluggish is that some things just get too expensive. If you are having problems finding automobile insurance that is affordable the best thing to do is take stock of which provider you are using and if there is anything you can do to lower premiums. If you have a clean driving record and a car that is not too sporty as to be considered a high risk vehicle, chances are you can significantly reduce the rates you are paying. That being said, it also depends on your age and where you live. Some drivers are considered to be in high risk groups, such as teen drivers and very elderly, and their premiums will be proportionately higher.

The best way to compare auto insurance rates is to look at them side by side to see what each insurance provider charges for various coverages. First of all, there may be optional coverages that you really can do without. While roadside assistance is nice to have in case of emergency, if it will knock some of the price off a bit, that could go a long way to making your policy affordable. Another thing to look at is optional coverages like collision and comprehensive that only cover damage to your vehicle. They are not mandated by state law in most cases, but if you have a loan on your vehicle the lender may require them. If you have clear title to the car, then you can knock those two off the options prior to comparing rates. It may very well be that by the time you get done removing options that are not absolutely necessary you can come up with premiums that are not only affordable, but much cheaper than you are currently paying.
